Chromecast Plays Audio but No Video—Help Needed!

I’ve been experiencing an issue with my Chromecast where it plays audio perfectly fine, but there’s no video display when I try to cast from my Android phone. This has been frustrating, especially when I just want to enjoy some shows or movies. I’m hoping someone here has faced a similar problem and can offer some troubleshooting steps or tips.

Things I’ve Tried:

  1. Restarted Chromecast: I unplugged it and plugged it back in to see if that would help.
  2. Checked Wi-Fi Connection: Both my phone and Chromecast are on the same Wi-Fi network, which I double-checked.
  3. Updated Apps: I made sure that the casting apps (like YouTube, Netflix, etc.) are all up to date on my phone.
  4. Cleared Cache: I cleared the cache from the Google Home app and the individual apps I was trying to cast from.
  5. Reinstalled Apps: I even went as far as uninstalling and reinstalling some apps that I’m trying to use for casting.

What Happens:

  • When I start casting, the audio plays, but the screen stays black.
  • Sometimes, I get a loading screen that eventually just times out, leaving the video still unresponsive.

Additional Information:

  • My Chromecast is the 3rd generation model.
  • The Android phone is a Pixel 5, running the latest version of Android.
  • I’ve checked for any firmware updates for the Chromecast, but it says it’s up to date.

Any Suggestions?

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? Maybe there’s a specific setting in my Chromecast or my phone that I need to adjust? Would really appreciate any guidance or steps I might have missed. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

I’ve seen issues like this stem from network latency. If your Wi-Fi is weak, it can cause video to lag while audio plays normally. Check your connection strength!

That’s a great point! Also, codec incompatibility can be a sneaky cause. Ensure your video format is supported by Chromecast.

I found that my device settings were off. Sometimes, adjusting the display settings on your TV can help synchronize audio and video. Have you checked that?

Interesting thoughts! I wonder if resetting the Chromecast could help too? A lot of issues clear up with a simple reboot.

Great tip! Sometimes it’s the simplest solutions that work. Have you tried switching HDMI ports? It can make a difference!

Codec issues are definitely a pain. Make sure the video file you’re trying to stream is in a format like MP4 or that your media server can transcode the video properly. Sometimes, it’s a codec mismatch.

What if the problem is with the app itself? Have you checked if it’s updated? Outdated apps sometimes have bugs that can cause issues like these too.

You make an excellent point! What apps or services are you using to stream? Some add extra complications.

This could also be a temporary issue with your internet provider. I mean, those random outages can mess with everything!

So true! But it’s also funny how we always blame devices first before considering what’s happening outside our control.

Has anyone tried streaming from a different device altogether? If the issue persists across multiple devices, it might really be a network problem.

I’m having the same issue! I can hear the audio but no video. Are your HDMI settings properly configured? Sometimes it can just be a mismatch between the device and the TV settings.

Check if your TV’s HDMI port is set to the right input. Sometimes, TVs have different HDMI modes that you can toggle. Just a thought!

Don’t forget about screen mirroring settings! Sometimes enabling it can mess up the video output. Have you checked if it’s turned on or not? That could be causing the issue.

That’s interesting! I’ll definitely check my screen mirroring settings. Would a factory reset help in these situations?

A factory reset might help, but make sure to back up your settings. You could also try switching the HDMI cable or port if possible. Sometimes it’s a simple hardware issue too.

Exactly! I had a similar issue with my old setup. Swapping ports fixed it right away. Good luck!

If all else fails, check the compatibility of your smartphone with Chromecast. Not all devices play nicely together, especially older models. Can you provide the device details?

I was just going to ask about the smartphone compatibility as well! My old phone couldn’t cast video even though audio worked seamlessly. Don’t overlook this, please!
