YouTube Won't Go Full Screen on My Android - Help!

I’m having a frustrating issue with the YouTube app on my Android phone. Whenever I try to watch a video, it just won’t go into full-screen mode. I’ve checked the app settings, and everything seems fine, but I can’t figure out what’s going wrong.

Here are a few details:

  • Device: I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S21.
  • App Version: The YouTube app is updated to the latest version available.
  • Screen Size: I’ve checked the screen settings, and they seem normal.

Troubleshooting Steps I’ve Tried:

  1. Restarted the app multiple times.
  2. Cleared the app cache from the settings.
  3. Uninstalled and reinstalled the app.
  4. Tried using different video playback settings in the app.

Questions:

  • Has anyone else encountered this problem?
  • Are there any specific settings I should check on my device?
  • Could this be a bug in the app or something related to my phone?

I really enjoy watching videos on YouTube, and not being able to watch them in full screen is driving me nuts. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I had similar problems with YouTube not going full screen on Chrome. Try clearing the cache and updating the app. Sometimes small settings can block it.

I’ve noticed that Firefox behaves differently. If you’re using Firefox, ensure it’s updated. The full-screen mode works better with the latest versions.

It’s interesting that some users report issues on Safari too! I’ve had full-screen problems while using Safari on my iPad. It seems like a browser issue.

True! For Android, I recommend trying the DuckDuckGo browser. It has performed well for me, especially with full-screen mode on YouTube.

I love the DuckDuckGo browser! But don’t forget to check the app permissions. Sometimes restrictive settings can hinder features like full-screen.

Good point! It also helps to ensure that the YouTube app is updated, as older versions can have bugs that interfere with functionality.

Just a reminder too, sometimes it’s not just the app; your phone software needs to be updated as well. Always check for system updates because they can affect app performance.

Absolutely! Besides, if all else fails, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. It sometimes works like magic!

Also, is anyone else tired of these YouTube glitches? I mean, full-screen not working is like a movie cut off right when it gets exciting!

Haha, so true! At least we can laugh about it while we’re fixing it. Just keep trying those solutions!

I had the same issue with YouTube not going full screen on my Android. Have you tried clearing the app cache? It worked for me!

I’ll definitely try that! I was also wondering if it’s related to my Android version. What version are you using?

YouTube sometimes has compatibility issues with older OS versions. Make sure your Android is updated to the latest version to avoid glitches.

I’m on Android 10. Do you think that could be the issue?

Absolutely, some older versions may not support newer features on apps. Try updating, that usually resolves that issue!

I’m on Android 11, and I’ve noticed the problem too! Clearing cache sometimes helps, but not always. Have any of you tried reinstalling the app?

Not yet! I’m a bit hesitant, but it might just be worth a shot.

Reinstalling can solve many issues, but it does suck to lose your settings. Just back them up if you can!

I wonder if this is more common on certain devices? My friend’s phone works perfectly with full screen, while mine is a mess!
