Why is my phone not working with WiFi? Need help!

I’m having some issues with my Android phone and its Wi-Fi connection, and I’m hoping to get some advice here. I’ve noticed that my phone either won’t connect to my home Wi-Fi, or it connected but is incredibly slow. Here are some details:

Symptoms:

  • Connection Issues: Sometimes, the phone doesn’t connect at all and says ‘Saved’ or ‘Authentication problem.’
  • Slow Speeds: When it does connect, browsing and streaming are painfully slow.
  • Intermittent Disconnects: The phone keeps dropping the connection even when I’m in the same room as the router.

What I’ve Tried So Far:

  1. Rebooting the Router: This has worked temporarily for other devices, but not for my phone.
  2. Forget and Reconnect: I have forgotten the network and re-entered the password multiple times.
  3. Toggle Airplane Mode: This sometimes helps, but only for a short while.
  4. Wi-Fi Settings: Made sure my phone’s Wi-Fi is turned on and that I’m not in any kind of battery saver mode that could be limiting connectivity.
  5. Checked for Updates: I have checked for both system and app updates, but everything is up to date.

My Specifications:

  • Phone Model: [Your Phone Model Here]
  • Android Version: [Your Android Version Here]
  • Router Brand/Model: [Your Router Brand/Model Here]

Questions:

  • Have you experienced similar issues, and if so, how did you resolve them?
  • Are there any specific settings I should check or tweak on my device?
  • Could this be a hardware issue?

I appreciate any help or suggestions to get my phone working properly with Wi-Fi again! Thank you in advance!

I’ve had similar issues before! First, make sure your WiFi is turned on in your phone settings. Sometimes it’s just that simple.

That’s a great point! Also, have you tried rebooting your router? Sometimes it just needs a little refresh.

Definitely check your router! If it’s not working, you might see no networks available on your phone.

I had the same issue! Resetting network settings can help. Just keep in mind it will erase saved WiFi passwords.

True! It’s worth a shot. Also, ensure you’re within range of your WiFi signal.

Has anyone checked if their phone’s WiFi is set to airplane mode by accident? That could easily be the culprit!

Good point, @brittany98! But if it’s not that, maybe the WiFi channel on your router needs changing. Some devices just don’t play nice with certain channels.

Check if there’s a firmware update available for your router. Sometimes outdated firmware can cause issues with connections.

Oh, I never thought of that! Definitely worth checking.

I love how we’re troubleshooting like a team! But, maybe you need to simply restart your phone too! Don’t forget the basics.

Haha, absolutely! Teamwork makes the dream work! But seriously, often a reboot can solve many problems.

A quick question, do you have data connectivity at all? If it’s just WiFi giving issues, that’s one thing, but if everything’s down…

That’s an interesting point! It’s key to rule out if the issue is phone-specific or network-specific.

It’s also possible that the ISP might be having temporary issues. Check their service status online if problems persist.

That’s true! Or maybe the WiFi got jealous of your phone and decided to stop working! Just kidding!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 and sometimes have trouble connecting to my home WiFi. I’ve read that certain models may struggle with 5GHz networks. Have you tried switching your router to 2.4GHz?

I had a similar issue with my iPhone and switching to 2.4GHz solved it. Sometimes the newer 5GHz bands aren’t compatible with all devices.

It’s not just the bands; I’ve found that some routers have compatibility issues with older devices. Which router model are you using? That could help narrow down the issue.

I’m using a Netgear Nighthawk. My phone works with other WiFi networks, so I think it’s something with my router settings.
