Why Does Pandora Shut Off When My Screen Locks on Android?

I’ve been having this frustrating issue where the Pandora app on my Android device just shuts down whenever the screen locks. It’s really annoying because I enjoy listening to music, and I want it to keep playing even when I’m not actively using my phone.

Troubleshooting Steps

I’ve done some research and here are a few troubleshooting steps I’ve tried:

  1. Check Battery Optimization Settings: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization. Make sure Pandora is not optimized. If it is, select it and choose ‘Don’t optimize’.
  2. App Permissions: Ensure Pandora has all the necessary permissions. Sometimes restricting permissions can interfere with its functionality.
  3. Background Data Usage: Check if background data is allowed for Pandora. Go to Settings > Apps > Pandora > Mobile Data and toggle on ‘Allow background data usage’. This should help keep it running in the background.
  4. Updates: Make sure both your Android OS and the Pandora app are updated to the latest version. Sometimes bugs get fixed in newer releases.

Anyone Else Experiencing This?

I’m not alone in this issue, right? Has anyone found a permanent fix or a specific setting that can help with this problem? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’ve noticed that my Pandora shuts off when my screen locks due to the battery optimization settings on my Android. Try going into settings and checking the battery section!

I had the same problem! Disabling battery optimization for Pandora fixed it for me. You might want to check if you’ve done that!

I found that certain apps, like Spotify and Pandora, get restricted in the background. Check your App Settings and modify Background App Management! It may help!

Good point! I had to manually allow Pandora to run in the background as well. It’s frustrating how these settings can affect app performance.

You also might want to check if your device has a data saver feature that turns off apps while the screen is locked. Easy to miss!

That’s a great tip! My data saver was set to restrict background data, and once I disabled it for Pandora, it worked perfectly.

I was annoyed too with Pandora cutting off! I turned off battery-saving modes during play, and it has been smooth sailing ever since!

I think that’s a common issue! Maybe check for any power-saving modes that might interfere with your app usage.

Some models have aggressive battery settings. Is anyone else experiencing this on Samsung devices? It drives me crazy!

Yes! Samsung’s battery management can be overly aggressive with apps in the background. You have to customize it for each app!

Haha, I thought I was the only one! It shuts off like I’m playing hide and seek with my music. Just adjust those settings, and it should be okay!

Lol, exactly! Music shouldn’t be on a scavenger hunt! Make sure to allow Pandora to run without interruptions.

Just a thought, does this happen to anyone when they try using their Bluetooth? I’ve noticed a pattern with connection interruptions.

Yeah! Once my screen locks and Bluetooth connects, there’s a pause! It’s annoying and makes me wonder if it’s the app or the device.

Having similar issues with my LG too. I’ve reset my settings a few times, but the problem persists. It’s definitely device-centric!

Totally get it, nataliemedina! It’s frustrating when you troubleshoot, yet the same issue keeps popping back up like a bad penny. Maybe it’s time to look into the app permissions too?

I used to have the same issue with Pandora shutting off when my screen locks! Make sure you check the app permissions and allow it to run in the background. Sometimes, the battery optimization can interfere too.

Thanks for the tip! How do I check the background activity settings for Pandora on Android?

To adjust those settings, go to Settings > Apps > Pandora > Battery. From there, you can uncheck any optimization settings that might be interfering.
