Why Can't My Caller Hear Me Unless I'm on Speaker? Help!

I’ve been having a frustrating issue with my Android phone. When I make calls, the person on the other end cannot hear me unless I switch to speaker mode. This has been really annoying, and I’m not sure what to do. Here are some details:

Issue Description

  • Device: [Your specific Android phone model]
  • Operating System: [Your Android version]
  • When it started: [Approximate date]

Troubleshooting I’ve Tried

  1. Restarting my phone: Sometimes a simple restart can solve many problems, but it didn’t help in this case.
  2. Checking permissions: I made sure the app I use for calls has the necessary microphone permissions.
  3. Inspecting the microphone: I cleaned the microphone openings to ensure they’re not blocked by dust or debris.
  4. Resetting audio settings: I even tried resetting my audio settings to default but no change.

Questions

  • Has anyone else encountered this issue?
  • What additional troubleshooting steps should I take?
  • Could this be a hardware issue, or is there a software fix?

Additional Notes

I really need to resolve this as I don’t want to always rely on speaker mode for calls. Any advice or suggestions would be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Have you checked your microphone settings? Sometimes the input might be muted or set incorrectly. Make sure nothing is blocking it, too!

Good point! Also, try disabling any noise suppression features in your audio settings; it might be affecting your microphone’s performance.

Have you tried resetting your phone? A simple restart can often resolve audio issues!

Yes, and also make sure you’re using the latest software version. An update might fix bugs affecting the mic.

Don’t forget to check for any physical obstructions. Sometimes cases or screen protectors can interfere with the microphone!

I never thought of that! I’ll check out my case right after this!

You might also want to test your microphone using a voice recording app. If it records your voice fine, it may be a call-related issue.

That’s a smart idea! What if it still doesn’t work? Could it be a hardware issue?

If hardware is the issue, you may need a repair. Check for warranty options; a broken mic can be a hassle!

Yeah, or maybe just a new phone? Mine’s getting old anyway.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say it really helps to have all these troubleshooting steps. Thank you for your support!

Teamwork makes the dream work! Let us know how it goes.

I’ve seen this issue pop up mainly in Samsung models. My S20 had similar problems until a software update fixed it. It’s worth checking for any available updates!

That’s interesting! I have a Google Pixel, and I’ve had this issue too. Never connected it to the brand before.

I’ve been using a Pixel 4, and it’s maddening! Everyone says ‘What? I can’t hear you!’ when I’m not on speaker. I wonder if it’s a common Pixel issue.

My OnePlus 7T has been fine, but I’ve heard others complain. It feels like some models definitely struggle with mic sensitivity. Glad to know I’m not alone!

I had a similar experience with my Pixel 5! It started after I updated the software. Such a headache!

I follow forums like this for fun, and it’s hilarious how phone models become infamous for the same issues. It’s like a club nobody wants to join!

That’s so true! I feel like these mic issues are part of a conspiracy by manufacturers to make us upgrade our phones more often! :joy:
