What happened to the microphone on my Samsung keyboard?

I’ve recently noticed that the microphone feature on my Samsung keyboard has stopped working, and it’s really throwing off my voice input.

What I’ve Tried

  • I checked the settings on my keyboard to make sure the microphone option is still enabled. It is, but nothing happens when I tap the microphone icon.
  • I restarted my phone, hoping that a fresh boot might resolve any temporary glitches. Unfortunately, it didn’t help.
  • I also made sure the app permissions for the keyboard were set to allow microphone access.

Possible Causes?

  • Software Update: I recently updated my phone’s software, and I’ve read that sometimes updates can cause features to behave unexpectedly. Has anyone else experienced something similar after an update?
  • App-Specific Issue: I’m mainly trying to use the microphone in messaging apps. Could this be more of an app issue than a keyboard problem?
  • Physical Damage: I don’t think my microphone is damaged, but it’s worth asking if anyone thinks physical damage could be an issue?

Looking for Solutions

I’m really seeking advice on how to troubleshoot this issue. If anyone has insights or suggestions on what I should try next, it would be greatly appreciated! Whether it’s changing settings, reinstalling the keyboard, or checking for any known bugs, I’m all ears.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I had the same issue! First, check if the microphone permission is enabled for the keyboard app in your settings. Go to Settings > Apps > Samsung Keyboard > Permissions.

That’s a great tip! Sometimes it’s just a permissions issue. You could also try clearing the cache of the keyboard app in Settings > Storage.

Don’t forget to ensure that your software is up-to-date! Go to Settings > Software Update and check for any available updates.

Exactly! It’s amazing how many issues can be resolved simply by updating your device. Also, try rebooting your phone.

If you’re using a third-party app, make sure it’s compatible with your Samsung keyboard. Some apps can mess with audio settings.

Has anyone else experienced this after a recent app update? It might be software related, but I’m curious if it’s a broader issue.

I noticed that too! I think some updates can inadvertently disable features. Did you try reinstalling the keyboard app?

Good point! Reinstalling could definitely work. Just back up your custom settings first, though.

Also, make sure there are no physical obstructions or damage to your microphone. Sometimes it’s not a software issue!

Definitely bring it up if the troubleshooting doesn’t work! You might need to contact Samsung support for hardware issues.

This thread is so helpful! I feel like I need a PhD in microphone troubleshooting now! :joy:

Haha! Same! After all these tips, I might just write a guide on it! But really, it’s good to know we can troubleshoot together.

I’ll just add that when I faced this issue, a factory reset sorted it out. It’s a last resort, of course.

I had the same issue with my Samsung keyboard mic - it just disappeared one day! I found that clearing the app cache worked for me. Go to Settings > Apps > Samsung Keyboard > Storage, and clear the cache.

I had a similar problem! After clearing the cache, I noticed that restarting my device also helped bring the microphone icon back.

Thanks for sharing, guys! I also experienced this issue. Sometimes, just toggling the microphone setting on and off in the keyboard settings does the trick.

I’ve been there! I thought my mic was broken. But it turned out I just had to allow microphone permissions under Settings > Apps. Once I did that, it was back!

Same here! I uninstalled a few recent updates and that seemed to fix the issue.

For me, it was a bit odd. The microphone showed up after I reset the keyboard settings to default. Have you tried that?
