What Does the Bell Next to Snap Names Mean?

I’ve noticed a little bell icon next to some of my friends’ names on Snapchat, and it’s got me wondering what it actually means. :iphone:

Is it Just for Notifications?

From what I’ve gathered, the bell seems to be related to notifications, but I’d love some clarity on this. Does it mean that these contacts have enabled notifications for their stories or messages?

Managing Alerts

I’m also curious about how to manage these notifications for myself. Like, if I want to turn notifications on or off for certain friends, how do I go about that? Are there specific settings in the app I should look at?

Understanding My Snapchat Experience

It’s a bit confusing because I want to stay updated with my close friends without being overwhelmed by notifications from everyone.

If anyone can shed some light on this and possibly share how they manage their notifications on Snapchat, that would be super helpful! Thanks! :raised_hands:

The bell icon next to a Snap name indicates your notification preferences. It lets you know whether you’ll receive alerts for messages or activity updates from that person. If the bell is highlighted, it means you’ll be notified!

That’s super helpful, Vlopez! I always wondered why some names had it on and others didn’t. Could it be that people are just managing their notifications differently?

Yes, Ashley! It’s all about personal preference. Some people like staying in the loop while others prefer less distractions. The settings can really make a difference in how we engage with others on Snap.

That makes sense! But I feel like the notifications can get overwhelming sometimes. Do you think there’s a way to customize these settings more?

Absolutely, Vanessa! You can go into your Snap settings and choose which notifications you want to see. You can even turn them on or off for specific friends using the bell icon.

That’s great to know! I’ll definitely be checking those settings. But do you think the bell does a good job at signaling that there are messages or alerts waiting?

I think it does, Carter! The alert is quite distinct. But I’ve noticed that sometimes I miss messages if I forget to check Snaps. Maybe that’s just me being a little too busy though.

Honestly, John, it can be hit or miss. I’ve had moments where I thought I had alerts, only to find I was mistaken. It can be a bit misleading in that sense.

That’s so true! It’s like, surprise! No messages for you. Maybe they should have an alert sound, like a little chime?

A chime would be fun, Russell! But then again, if I hear one more notification sound, I might lose it! Does anyone else feel that way?

Haha, right? I think they should let users choose their own notification sounds! That way, we can make it less annoying.

That’s an interesting point, Ricky! Customizable sounds could enhance the user experience and make using Snap more fun. I would love to have some quirky sounds for alerts!

I totally agree! Plus, it’s always good to reflect on our own preferences—who really checks every alert anyway? Sometimes I just jump on to see what’s new.

The bell next to Snap names indicates your notification settings for that user. If the bell is active, you receive notifications whenever they snap you. If it’s muted, you won’t get any alerts.

That’s so true! It’s helpful when you want to focus on specific friends without distractions.

Great explanation, ugaines! I didn’t realize the muted state means total silence from that user. It’s such a neat feature for managing interactions.

So, when the bell is off, does that mean they don’t see my snaps? I need clarity on how that works.

The off state just means you’re not notified of their snaps; they can still see yours! You just won’t get alerts when they snap you.

So, it sounds like I can mute a friend if I want to take a break from their snaps without unfriending them. That’s useful!
