Water Damage: My Phone Won't Charge, Help!

Help Needed for My Water-Damaged Phone

I recently had a bit of a disaster when my Android phone got exposed to water. Ever since, it won’t charge no matter what I do. I’ve tried a few things, but nothing seems to work. I’m reaching out to see if anyone has experienced this and could share some advice.

What I’ve Tried

  1. Letting It Dry: I took out the SIM card and let the phone air dry for a couple of days.
  2. Using Rice: I put the phone in a bowl of rice for 48 hours to try and draw out moisture, but still no luck.
  3. Cleaning the Charging Port: I checked the charging port for any debris and used a soft brush to clean it out.

What Should I Do Next?

  • Check the Charging Cable: Is it worth trying a different charging cable or adapter?
  • Opening the Phone: Should I consider opening it up to check for corrosion, or is it best to leave it to professionals?
  • Seeking Repair Services: If it comes to that, does anyone have recommendations for reliable repair services that handle water damage?

I’d really appreciate any tips or experiences you can share. I just want to get my phone back to working condition, but I’m not sure what to do next!

Thanks in advance for your help!

First things first, turn off your phone immediately! This is crucial to prevent further damage. If it’s still on, try powering it down as soon as possible.

Great point! After shutting it down, remove any cases and accessories. This helps it dry faster.

I’ve read that placing your phone in a bowl of rice can help absorb moisture. It might take a couple of days, but it’s worth a shot!

Also, don’t try to charge it right away! That can cause a short circuit.

Don’t use a hair dryer! The heat can damage your phone further. Just let it air dry in a cool, dry spot.

So true! I made that mistake once. I still laugh about it now, but it wasn’t funny then!

You should also check for any visible water damage. Look into the SIM card slot for moisture or corrosion.

Good idea! Sometimes, you can even spot moisture in the camera lens area.

If there’s a lot of moisture, try gently shaking the phone to get some water out. Just don’t shake it too hard!

Interesting tip! If necessary, you could also use a vacuum cleaner attachment, but be very careful.

At this point, just let it sit and don’t do anything for at least 48 hours. Patience is key!

That’s hard to do! I’d keep checking, but I know it’s risky.

If it still won’t work after drying, it might be time to consult a professional. Don’t risk further damage by trying to fix it yourself.

Has anyone here tried using rice to dry out their phone? I’ve heard mixed results; some say it works, others say it just makes a mess!

I did that once, and it didn’t help! I think the water may have damaged the battery too. Has anyone ever replaced a battery after water damage?
