Voice to Text Feature Disappeared After Latest Android Update?

I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has experienced their ‘voice to text’ functionality disappearing after the recent Android update on their Samsung devices. It’s been incredibly frustrating since I rely on this feature for messaging and note-taking.

What’s Happened?

After installing the latest software update, I noticed that the voice input option on my Gboard keyboard is completely gone. I’ve tried a few things to troubleshoot:

  1. Check Keyboard Settings: I ensured that Gboard is set as my default keyboard and that voice input is enabled in the settings.
  2. Permissions: I verified that Gboard has all the necessary permissions, especially microphone access.
  3. Cleared Cache: I cleared the cache and data for Gboard in the App Settings.
  4. Reinstall Gboard: I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Gboard, but the voice input feature still didn’t return.
  5. System Restart: Sometimes a simple restart helps, but no luck here.

What I’m Looking For

I’m really hoping to get some insights or solutions from this community.

  • Has anyone else faced this issue?
  • What steps have you taken to resolve it?
  • Is it possible that this feature has been removed in the update or is it just a temporary glitch?

Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I just want to get my voice to text feature back and be able to use my phone more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your help!

Has anyone else noticed that the voice to text feature totally stopped working since the last Android update? It’s been frustrating!

I hear you! Have you tried checking your settings? Sometimes the update changes preferences without telling you.

I had the same issue! A quick restart of my device did the trick. It seems basic, but it works wonders.

That’s a good point! I also recommend checking if your speech-to-text app needs an update.

I’ve checked settings, restarted, and updated all my apps, but it still won’t work! This is such a hassle.

Maybe try clearing the app cache? Sometimes that can do the trick after an update.

Could there be a bug in the latest update? It’s strange how features just vanish. I’m curious if others have the same experiences.

I agree! But if bugs were fixed in the previous update, it may be a trade-off for new features.

Has anyone considered uninstalling updates for the Google app? Sometimes reverting helps until the next patch comes out.

That’s an interesting idea! I’d suggest backing up important data first, just in case.

Honestly, if the voice to text can’t recognize me, I might as well start typing with my feet. Anyone else feel my pain? :joy:

LOL, mwilliams! But seriously, it is annoying. I hope they get this fixed in the next update. Reflection mode activated: sometimes tech just hates us! :joy:

Ever since the last update on my Pixel 5, the voice to text feature has been hit or miss. Sometimes it works perfectly, and other times it just won’t respond. It’s frustrating!

I had the same experience with my Galaxy S21! It’s like they broke something that was working fine before. I hope they fix it soon!

While I haven’t had issues with voice to text, the overall performance of my phone has been sluggish since the update. Anyone else feeling this way?

I can relate! My Note 10 is also slower, but the voice feature is surprisingly still working well. Must be a device-specific problem.

Honestly, I think the updates have been more headache than help. My voice to text has turned into word salad! What were they thinking?

Haha, that’s a perfect way to put it! Mine once turned ‘I need coffee’ into ‘I need a coffin.’ We need a patch ASAP!

The voice to text worked fine on my device before, but since the update, the recognition has been awful. I wonder what they changed?
