How to Set Up Android Messages to Auto-Delete OTPs?

Seeking Help with Auto-Deleting OTPs in Android Messages

I’ve been receiving a lot of one-time passwords (OTPs) lately through Android Messages, and it’s starting to clutter my inbox. I know that managing SMS messages can help improve privacy and keep things organized, so I was wondering if anyone has found a way to automatically delete these OTP messages?

What I’ve Tried So Far:

  • Manual Deletion: I’ve been manually deleting them, but that quickly becomes tedious.
  • Third-Party Apps: I looked into some SMS management apps, but many of them don’t offer a straightforward way to filter and auto-delete only OTPs.

Questions:

  1. Is there a built-in feature in Android Messages for this?
  2. Are there any specific apps you would recommend that can help with this?
  3. Has anyone created a workaround that could help automate this process?

I would really appreciate any advice or tips you can share. Thanks in advance for your help!

I think Android Messages has a built-in feature that automatically deletes OTPs after 24 hours, but it’s good to check your settings. You can find it under ‘Advanced’ in the Message settings.

That sounds convenient! But can you customize it to delete them sooner? Sometimes, I get multiple OTPs within the hour.

Currently, there isn’t a way to adjust the auto-delete timer specifically for OTPs, but managing your messages manually works too! Just don’t select ‘Save’ when you see them.

I see! So, the auto-deletion is pretty much fixed. That’s a bummer for those who want cleaner inboxes faster.

Sometimes I feel like those OTPs just clutter my inbox! It’s nice to have them auto-delete but I wish we could have more control over them.

Right? It’s like they multiply after you unsubscribe from services. Why can’t less be more!

If you’re concerned about clutter, another strategy is to use a dedicated app for OTPs or your two-factor authentication codes! It can make life less chaotic.

That’s a solid idea! Is there a specific app you’d recommend?

I personally use Google Authenticator. It’s straightforward, but there are others like Authy that allow backups in the cloud.

That’s great! I’ll look into it. Do you think it’s more secure than SMS OTPs?

Definitely! SMS can be intercepted, while apps generate codes locally on your device. Much safer in terms of security.

That makes total sense! I guess having fewer SMS OTPs would help too. I can never keep track of which one is which.

And hey, at least sorting through those messages can be humorous at times! OTPs from 15 different services get hilarious sometimes, like, ‘Do I really need this many accounts?’

Has anyone explored the security implications of auto-deleting OTPs? While it can reduce clutter, I worry about missing important messages.

I completely agree! The risk is that you could accidentally delete an OTP that you actually need. What if someone tries to hijack your account?

It’s essential to find a balance. You can set your messages to auto-delete after a certain time. Just remember to save sensitive ones!

Exactly! And while auto-deleting can help with decluttering, it also requires vigilance on our part.

In my opinion, if you decide to auto-delete, ensure you’re using two-factor authentication. It adds another layer of security.

That’s a great point, jessica48! Pairing auto-deletion with strong authentication practices can mitigate many risks. I like to keep sensitive messages archived instead of deleted.
