How Do I Disable Visual Voicemail on My Android?

Seeking Help to Turn Off Visual Voicemail

I’ve been using my Android phone for a while now, and I’ve noticed that I really don’t want the visual voicemail feature anymore. It seems to just complicate things for me, and I’d much rather stick to the traditional voicemail system.

I’ve looked into the settings, but I’m having trouble figuring out exactly how to disable it. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Checked the Phone App Settings: I went into the settings of the Phone app, but couldn’t find anything that clearly states ‘disable visual voicemail’.
  • Uninstalled the Visual Voicemail App: I found the app, but it just came back after I restarted my phone.
  • Looked at Carrier Settings: I even checked with my carrier to see if they could help me remove this feature, but they seem to have limited options.

If anyone knows the step-by-step process to turn this off effectively or any hidden settings I might have missed, I would really appreciate it! Also, if you have suggestions on how to manage voicemails without this feature, that would be helpful too!

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!

To disable visual voicemail on most Android devices, open the Phone app, tap on the three dots (or settings icon) in the top right corner, go to ‘Voicemail’, and toggle off ‘Visual Voicemail’.

That’s a solid start! Depending on your carrier, you might need to change the voicemail number in your settings too.

If you’re on Verizon, you also need to call *86 after turning off visual voicemail to ensure it’s completely disabled. Good luck!

That’s a great tip! I’ve always struggled with voicemail settings, so thanks for sharing.

On Samsung devices, you can also try checking the Visual Voicemail app directly. There are settings in the app that might override the phone app settings!

Is this process similar for Google Pixel phones too? I’m really curious if the steps vary much across brands.

Good question! I have a Pixel, and it’s pretty much the same. Open the Phone app, go to settings, and turn it off there.

I wonder if there are any quirky workarounds for disabling it? Sometimes I prefer those to just changing settings!

You could try clearing the app data for the Visual Voicemail app! Just be careful, as it might delete your voicemails.

Yikes, I definitely wouldn’t want to lose my messages! I’ll stick to the official method.

I’m just trying to picture someone clearing data like it’s a treasure hunt! :joy: But really, it’s wise to proceed with caution.

If you want to disable Visual Voicemail, go to your phone’s settings, find the Voicemail section, and turn off Visual Voicemail. Alternatively, you might consider using a traditional voicemail system instead.

That’s a great tip! I’ve also found that using third-party voicemail apps can give you more flexible options than the built-in services.

I actually prefer traditional voicemail since it’s straightforward. Visual Voicemail feels a bit overwhelming with all those buttons and options.

I totally get that! Sometimes, simpler is better. Have you ever tried using a call forwarding feature to manage voicemail differently?

I’m supportive of ditching Visual Voicemail. For me, it was just complicated! I’ve started using a third-party app that provides a clearer interface. It made a big difference!

Nice, which app do you recommend? I’m thinking of making the switch myself.

Using traditional voicemail could make things more manageable. You just listen to messages in order rather than scrolling through a list. Plus, it works without the internet.

That’s true, but don’t forget about the convenience of Visual Voicemail, like being able to read messages! Isn’t that sometimes worth it?
