Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like technology has a mind of its own sometimes? I’ve had downloads work randomly after a complete reboot!

Right? It’s almost like they want us to figure them out the hard way! 
Reflecting on my experiences, I’ve noticed that sometimes simply waiting a bit helps, as server issues might also affect downloads from Gmail.
That’s true! We often forget that it’s not just our devices in play. Sometimes patience is key!
