Google Fi VPN Not Connecting - Need Help!

It seems like I’m running into some issues with the Google Fi VPN on my Android device. I’ve been trying to get it set up for a few days now, but no matter what I do, I just can’t seem to get it to work properly. I’ve tried restarting my phone, toggling the VPN on and off, and even reinstalling the app, but I’m still having trouble.

Troubleshooting Steps I’ve Tried:

  • Restarted my device: This is usually the first step, but surprisingly it didn’t help this time.
  • Reinstalled the Google Fi app: I thought maybe a fresh install would clear up any issues, but that didn’t do the trick either.
  • Checked my Internet connection: Everything is fine with Wi-Fi and mobile data, so I don’t think the connection is the problem.
  • Looked for updates: I checked for both app and system updates, and everything is up to date.

My Setup:

  • Device: Android (Pixel 4a)
  • OS Version: Android 12
  • Google Fi plan: Unlimited

Questions:

  1. Has anyone else experienced this problem with Google Fi’s VPN?
  2. Are there any specific settings I should check or change?
  3. Has anyone found a workaround that might help me connect?

Any guidance or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help with this tech issue!

I’ve been having similar issues with Google Fi VPN. Sometimes it just doesn’t connect, and when it does, the speed is super slow. Very frustrating!

I totally relate! Have you tried resetting your network settings? That worked for me once.

I’ve also experienced error messages when connecting. It often says ‘VPN connection failed’. Anyone know what that means?

That happened to me too! I found that updating the device software resolved it. Worth a shot!

Thanks for the tips! I’ll try updating first. Any other advice on improving VPN performance?

Consider changing your VPN server location. Sometimes, certain locations can be slower due to high traffic.

I feel like Google Fi VPN has inconsistent performance. One day it’s quick, the next day completely non-functional!

Exactly! I wonder why it’s so hit-or-miss. Could it be network congestion?

I feel your pain! I’ve had to toggle the VPN on and off multiple times to get it to work sometimes. Super annoying!

No kidding! It’s like playing whack-a-mole with this thing! But hey, at least we’re not alone.

If this keeps up, I might just give up on Google Fi VPN altogether. It’s becoming more trouble than it’s worth.

You’re not alone in that sentiment! I’ve considered trying a different service if things don’t improve.

Does anyone know if there are any ongoing issues with Google Fi right now? That could be why it’s acting strange.

That’s a good point. Maybe there’s a known outage affecting connections? It would be good to check their status page.

At this stage, I’m just crossing my fingers that the next update resolves these issues! It’s a game of patience.

Has anyone checked their APN settings for Google Fi? Make sure it’s set to ‘h2g2.’ If your VPN isn’t working, it could be due to incorrect APN.

Great tip! I finally got my VPN running after changing my APN. I set it to ‘h2g2’ and it worked like a charm!

I had issues too, and setting the APN helped me. Just ensure you’re also using the right VPN protocol, like OpenVPN. Anyone else tried this?

I’ve been using L2TP for my VPN, and it’s stable with Google Fi. Just double-check your server settings if you’re still having trouble.
