Does the Google Pixel Have an IR Blaster?

I’m on the hunt for a new smartphone and I’ve been considering the Google Pixel series. However, one feature I’ve relied on with my current phone is the infrared (IR) blaster, which I use to control various appliances like my TV and air conditioner.

I’ve read through some specifications and user forums, but I still can’t find a definitive answer regarding IR blaster support on Google Pixel phones. Here are a few points I’d love to get clarity on:

1. IR Blaster Availability

Can anyone confirm whether any of the Google Pixel models come with an IR blaster? I understand many flagship phones these days have removed this feature, but I’m hoping there’s at least one model that still supports it.

2. Alternatives for IR Control

If the Pixel doesn’t have an IR blaster, how do other users manage to control their appliances? Are there apps that work well with smart remotes, or am I better off looking at other phone brands that still include this feature?

3. Comparison with Other Brands

For those who’ve switched from a brand that supports IR blasters (like some Samsung or Xiaomi models), how do you feel about giving that feature up? Is it something you miss, or have you adjusted well?

I appreciate any insights or experiences you all can share about this. It would really help in my decision-making process. Thanks!

I’ve always found IR blasters super convenient! I use mine to control my TV and AC. Unfortunately, the Google Pixel doesn’t include one, which is a bummer for those of us who rely on it.

That’s true! I read that many manufacturers are dropping IR blasters, probably to focus on other tech. What do we do if we can’t control our devices easily?

I really miss having an IR blaster on my phone! It was handy for parties, allowing us to control the TV from anywhere. Any alternatives?

I don’t think the Pixel lacking an IR blaster is a huge deal. Most smart remotes or apps now can control devices too. Just needs setup!

True, but there’s something satisfying about using the phone directly. Anyone found a decent smart remote app?

It’s a shame that the IR blaster is disappearing. I used mine to make movie nights way easier. Now I have to juggle a remote and my phone!

Haha, the struggle is real! I wish my phone could just do it all. Is there a smart device that does this well?

I’ve started using a universal remote that connects to Wi-Fi. It works well as long as you have a good setup. Definitely worth looking into!

Seriously! It’s wild that some of our older phones had IR blasters when now they seem to be an afterthought. Remember when that was a big selling point?

Right? It feels like technology is going backwards in some ways. What are phones really prioritizing these days?

I’ve got an old Pixel that does have IR! I keep it around just for that reason - it’s like having a backup remote. Anyone else keep old phones for nifty features?

I never thought about that! Keeping an old phone for its IR capabilities seems smart. Maybe I should hold onto my old devices a bit longer.

Honestly, I’ve been using a smart plug! It doesn’t replace the remote but lets me control my AC from my smartphone easily. Worth considering!

That’s a great tip! Maybe not as fun as the IR blaster but definitely handy. I might give that a try!

I love my Google Pixel, but I do miss having an IR blaster. It’s so convenient for controlling TVs and other devices. Brands like Xiaomi and LG have really made good use of it in their phones.

Totally agree! The versatility of an IR blaster makes life easier. I use mine on my older Samsung all the time. The Pixel just doesn’t compete there.

While I understand the value of an IR blaster, I find that I use my smart home apps much more than I anticipated. The Pixel’s seamless integration with Google Home balances it out for me.

The absence of an IR blaster in Pixel devices is a bummer, but honestly, how often do you really use it? I think it’s a trade-off for the overall performance and software experience.

For me, it used to be daily! But I now rely on streaming services more. I still miss it occasionally for quick remote access.
