Cracked tablet screen and touch not working, any fixes?

I recently dropped my tablet, and now the screen is cracked, and the touch functionality is completely unresponsive. I’m looking for some advice on how to troubleshoot this issue and possibly get it fixed without breaking the bank. Here are the details:

What happened?

  • I accidentally dropped the tablet from a short height while watching a video.
  • The screen has a noticeable crack, and now the touch doesn’t respond at all, which makes it impossible to use.

What have I tried so far?

  • Restarting the device – I held the power button and tried to reboot but it didn’t help.
  • Checking for any visible loose parts or damage, but I’m not quite sure what to look for as I’m not very tech-savvy.

What I’m looking for:

  • Troubleshooting Tips: Are there any steps I can take to see if the screen is still functioning?
  • Repair Options: Should I try to repair it myself, or is it better to take it into a repair shop?
  • Replacement Advice: If I do need to replace the screen, what should I look for, and how much should it cost?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just want to get my tablet back to working order without spending too much or doing anything risky. Any insights or suggestions from your own experiences would be really helpful!

I had a similar problem last year. You can either go for a professional repair service, which can cost between $100 and $200, or try fixing it yourself with a DIY kit that costs around $30. Just be careful if you choose DIY; it can get tricky!

That’s great advice! I never knew DIY kits were so cheap. But how hard is it really to fix it yourself? I’m not very handy.

If you don’t want to risk a DIY fail, check local repair shops. They usually offer warranties on their work. I spent about $150 last month for a cracked screen replacement, and it was worth it!

That’s exactly what I’m worried about! How do I find a reputable repair shop?

Look for places with good reviews online, and check if they offer free estimates. It’s also great if they have experience with your specific tablet model. Good luck!

I recently dropped my tablet too. After searching online, I found a DIY video that made it seem easy! But I still can’t decide whether to try it or pay someone to do it.

You have to ask yourself, is the risk of further damage worth the savings? Sometimes it’s better to spend a little more for peace of mind!

Totally agree! Plus, if you mess up the DIY fix, it could cost even more to repair.

Or you might just end up with a tablet that’s a crazy mosaic of tape and glass! :joy: Serious question though, has anyone had luck with online repair services?

I tried a mail-in service once. It was a bit nerve-wracking sending my tablet away, but they did a fantastic job! Just make sure you track the shipment!

That sounds promising! Was it expensive?

Not really! I paid around $100 including shipping. Considering my tablet was in excellent condition otherwise, it was totally worth it.

Just a thought, if your tablet is older, maybe it’s time to consider upgrading instead of repairing. Sometimes it makes more sense!

If your tablet screen is cracked and the touch isn’t working, try a soft reset first by holding the power button for about 10 seconds. Sometimes this can recalibrate the screen temporarily.

Great suggestion! Has anyone tried recalibrating the screen through the settings? I heard that can help sometimes!

It’s also a good idea to check for any loose components or damage inside. If you’re comfortable, you can open the tablet and inspect it! But be careful, you don’t want to make it worse!

If you’re not tech-savvy, I wouldn’t recommend opening it up. A professional can better diagnose hardware damage. Just don’t trust the first shop—ask for recommendations!

So true! I once tried to fix my phone and ended up with a broken tablet too! Stick to software fixes unless you know what you’re doing.

You should also consider doing a factory reset, but this will erase all data. Ensure everything is backed up! It’s a bit of a last resort though.
